I'm very happy with the performance of my new Progressive mandoline slicer. After tossing out my old V-Blade Zyliss sclicerwith its perfectly useless rail-guided food holder, I settled on this one based on all its positive reviews.
I'm an avid cook and can vouch that the best apple pie is made from uniformly sliced apples. The resulting pie contains evenly cooked apples, instead of some that are undercooked and others that are mush. But slicing apples is only one of many uses for this mandoline - beautiful looking salads, stir-fries and hors d'oeuvres are a breeze with this little gem. I don't do it often, but homemade potato chips from potatoes cut on the "super thin" slice attachment are out of this world.
The three two-sided attachments that come with the mandoline create four thickness options for plain slices, and two sizes for julienne. The attachments are easy to pop in and out, and clean-up is easy. The storage box is a real bonus. Not quite as important, but worth mentioning is the fact that this is made of black plastic as opposed to white (like Zyliss and others). Carrots will discolor white plastic, but it's not visible on the black plastic.
What a great value for such a useful kitchen tool. All mandolines eventually lose their razor-sharp edges, so if I get one or two useful years out of this one, I'll happily replace it with another for this bargain price.
